My name is Eron Rubio, I’m 19 years old and I was diagnosed with retinoblastoma when I was 23 months old. I graduated from Dobson High School, class of 2009. While there, I was a student athlete. I was a 3 year wrestler at 160lbs. I started on varsity for 2 years and was team captain my senior year. I also did a ton of lifting, running, and sprinting. Currently, I am working full time as a server/busser/prep at a small restaurant in Phoenix. My hobbies are basically video games, running, and playing basketball daily. I am also a huge sports fan. The New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals are my favorite NFL teams. And the Phoenix Suns are my favorite NBA team. I hope to go to MCC for my core classes, and my major. I plan to take the EMT/Firescience course, so I can become a firefighter and eventually a wildlife firefighter in a city in northern Arizona. I volunteer more than a week of my time, every year to American Cancer Societies’ Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks. It’s a week long camp for either kids who have or had cancer, and their siblings. So although I have a prosthetic right eye, I live a normal and more than happy life. I even forget that I am half blind most of the time. It doesn’t stop me from anything I do.
